VEGFA and ablepharon macrostomia syndrome: The etiology of AMS is considered multifactorial and includes mechanisms such as genetic predisposition (MacInnis et al., 2011), dysfunctional cerebral autoregulation, elevated cerebral blood flow, variability in cranio-spinal capacitance, and increased expression of certain hypoxic mediators such as nitric oxide, free radicals, acetyl choline, prostaglandins and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (Hackett and Roach, 2001; Wilson et al., 2009).
