Enhanced metabolic state (determined by the rate of oxygen consumption and extracellular acidification) was observed in cells with high LDH-B expression profile, but interestingly knocking-down LDH-A or LDH-B mRNA in breast cancer cells resulted in enhanced metabolic rate suggesting a metabolic compensation from knocking down one of the isoenzymes (Dennison et al., 2013). This evidence concerns the gene LDHA and breast carcinoma.
