Moreover, since it is well known that calcium homeostasis is altered in cancer cells (26), and a series of molecules involved with EMT such as cadherins and OPN, present a calcium-dependent activation, we also investigated if changes in genes codifying for the plasma membrane calcium ATPases (PMCA) named Atp2b1-Atp2b4, that in normal conditions maintain intracellular Ca2+ at the nanomolar range, could present a correlation with possible changes on Spp1 expression. This evidence concerns the gene SPP1 and cancer.
