The research group found that OVA-induced FTO knockout mice exhibited evident defects of motile ciliogenesis and asthma-like inflammatory phenotypes, such as the upregulated expression of the Th2 cytokine (IL-13) and the downregulated expression of the Th1 cytokine (IL-12b) mRNA in lung tissues, and significantly increased levels of IL-13 and IL-4 in BALF (40). This evidence concerns the gene IL12B and asthma.
