FosB expression, a marker of chronic neuronal activation, was significantly increased in VMH sections in the HTN+VMH activation group compared with sham group or HTN group, indicating that VMH neurons were successfully activated by DREADDs (1.40 ± 0.51 vs. 2.00 ± 0.84 vs. 21.40 ± 3.66, sham vs. HTN vs. HTN+VMH activation, p < 0.05, Figure 2A).
