In food-induced obesity, the whole-body energy homeostasis is disrupted (18), which may be related to abnormalities in hypothalamic neurons, e.g., NPY/agouti gene-related peptidergic neurons stimulating POMC/cocaine- and amphetamine-induced transcriptergic neurons (19–21). The gene discussed is POMC; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
