Interestingly, compensated CHF was associated with a slight increase of these two enzymes, whereas decompensated CHF exhibited a decline in both the renal corin and PCSK6, suggesting a role of locally produced NPs in the regulation of salt/water excretion on one hand and that perturbations in this system may play a role in the pathogenesis of Na+ retention and edema formation during the decompensated stage. This evidence concerns the gene PCSK6 and congestive heart failure.
