We observed that the vaspin concentration was significantly increased in COVID-19 patients with hypercholesterolemia, increased LDL-cholesterol and hypertriglyceridemia when compared to those with normal lipids levels (0.28 [0.16–0.40] vs. 0.12 [0.08–0.16] ng/ml; p < 0.001; 0.28 [0.17–0.49] vs. 0.14 [0.09–0.21] ng/ml; p < 0.001; and 0.22 [0.14–0.35] vs. 0.12 [0.07–0.21] ng/ml; p < 0.001). This evidence concerns the gene SERPINA12 and familial hypercholesterolemia.
