PPARGC1A and Parkinson disease: In the same paper we also demonstrated that accumulating PARIS acts on PGC-1α, the master regulator of mitochondrial biogenesis, along the NRF1/2-TFAM axis to intervene in mitochondrial biogenesis, and that the transcriptionally inactive PARIS mutant (C571A) lacks repression capacity to induce the phenotype. Recently two variants in PARIS were identified in early onset Parkinson’s disease in Chinese providing a genetic link of PARIS to PD7.
