NRP1 and lung cancer: The activation of key metastatic signaling cascades and the promotion of malignant transformation in NSCLC have been known to be associated with the overexpression of snail family zinc finger 2 (SLUG) which is a zinc-finger-containing transcriptional factor that mediates the activation of EMT, migration, and invasion of lung cancer cells and neuropilin 1 (NRP1) which mediates the upregulation of the matrix metalloproteinases-2 (MMP-2) expression and activity resulting in an increase in tumor cell invasion, angiogenesis, and distant organ colonization [89–95].
