In CRC, as with many other cancers, the genes that often acquire mutations and are associated with the development of tumours include TP53 (HGNC:11998), CTNNB1 (HGNC:2514), CDH1 (HGNC:1748), TGFB1 (HGNC:11766), SMAD4 (HGNC:6770), PTEN (HGNC:9588), KRAS (HGNC:6407) as well as a number of other genes directly related to cell maintenance (4). The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
