Arias-Loste et al. have demonstrated the high TLR6 cell surface expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) and inflamed hepatocytes of NAFLD and NASH patients concurrently resulting in pro-inflammatory cytokines like e IL-1β, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), and IL-6 release in different quantities when TLR2 or TLR2/TLR6 were stimulated. Here, TLR6 is linked to metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
