Laurent et al. (2018) and Didonna (2020) emphasized tauopathies and neuroinflammatory processes as a vicious circle that works together in the pathogenesis of AD. A link between pro-inflammatory cytokine signaling and hyperphosphorylation of tau has also been reported (Domingues et al., 2017). Of note, usnic acid derivatives were found to inhibit tau aggregation and neuroinflammation (Shi et al., 2020). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and tauopathy.
