Indeed, in THP-1 macrophages, L. (V. ) panamensis infection resulted in greater CXCL10 compared to the previously generated L. (L. ) major (Seidman strain) gp63 knockout (Δgp63; [21]): L. (L. ) major (Seidman strain) wild-type infection resulted in CXCL10 near the lower limit of detection, L. (L. ) major (Seidman strain) Δgp63 had significantly increased CXCL10 protein, and L. (V. ) panamensis resulted in even greater levels of CXCL10 protein (Fig 1C). The gene discussed is CXCL10; the disease is infection.
