Extensive evidence implicates PARP1 in a number of nervous system diseases, including neurodegenerative disorders (Mao and Zhang, 2021), ischemic stroke (Endres et al., 1997; Chiarugi, 2005), glioma (Galia et al., 2012; Murnyák et al., 2017), epilepsy (Kim et al., 2014), traumatic brain injury (Stoica et al., 2014), and psychiatric disorders (Szebeni et al., 2016).
