Iron regulatory proteins (IRP) can bind to the IRE under iron deficiency conditions, thereby inhibiting protein synthesis, whereby increased iron levels cause IRP to bind to iron, which promotes the dissociation of IRP from the α-syn mRNA, leading to facilitation of the translation of the α-syn mRNA (Anderson et al., 2012; Zhou and Tan, 2017). The gene discussed is WNT2; the disease is nutritional disorder.
