Considering that hyperphosphorylation of tau is a well-known marker of neurodegenerative disorders and that tau phosphorylation is one of the earliest cytoskeletal changes in AD and a critical step in the formation of neurofibrillary tangles (Wischik et al., 1988), we evaluated tau phosphorylation at Ser396 (pTauSer396) which has been strongly linked to AD progression (Mondragón-Rodríguez et al., 2014). The gene discussed is MAPT; the disease is Alzheimer disease.
