MAPT and Alzheimer disease: Notably, WT animals recovered over time, whereas 3×Tg-AD mice failed to rescue central damage associated with hearing loss, showing not only persistent synaptic and morphological alterations in the ACx, but also hippocampal dysfunction, increased tau phosphorylation, and anticipated memory deficits compared to the expected time-course of AD phenotype observed in age-matched 3×Tg-AD mice not exposed to noise.
