In the late stage of NAFLD, autophagy was weakened due to the degradation of autophagy-related gene Atg7, the change of lipid composition of autophagy membrane and lysosome membrane, the weakening of autophagy-lysosomal proteolysis function, hyperinsulinemia, and the increase of intracellular calcium level in hepatocytes, which aggravated NAFLD [23]. This evidence concerns the gene ATG7 and metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
