Exploring the basis of the metabolic memory of the residual cell population, we observed that several signaling pathways, including the signaling network of hypoxia‐inducible factor 1 (HIF1α), a well‐known master regulator of the glycolytic phenotype in cancers, are distinctively active in residual cells as assessed by a footprinting‐based activity analysis of transcription factor (TF)‐target gene expression (Appendix Fig S12A–C, Appendix Table S3) (Essaghir et al, 2010; Alvarez et al, 2016; Holland et al, 2020). This evidence concerns the gene HIF1A and cancer.
