EpCAM was later described to be strongly and frequently expressed in the majority of carcinomas (Baeuerle and Gires, 2007; Went et al., 2004), in pluripotent embryonic stem cells (ESCs) (Gonzalez et al., 2009; Lu et al., 2010; Ng et al., 2009), and hepatic progenitors (Dolle et al., 2015; Schmelzer et al., 2006, 2007). This evidence concerns the gene EPCAM and carcinoma.
