DXA scan is equally useful as a prognostic tool for the normal population as for patients with stage 1–3 CKD. Efficacy of bisphosphonates, SERM, RANKL inhibitors, and PTH agonists were similar for patients with mild-to-moderate CKD, along with patients who underwent renal transplantation. Current treatment guidelines suggest using bisphosphonates and other osteoporosis treatments, even if a mild-to-moderate decline in kidney function is noticed. This evidence concerns the gene TNFSF11 and chronic kidney disease.
