An experiment in diabetic nephropathy mice models has revealed that the saponin of lychee seed could delay the diabetic kidney inflammation development through inhibiting the expression of MCP-1 and intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) protein in the kidney tissue, reducing the content of pro-inflammatory cytokines including interleukin-1β (IL-1β) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the serum (Qin, 2017). Here, IL6 is linked to diabetic kidney disease.
