Elevated levels of adiponectin have been found in human samples of RA serum and synovial fluid [8,9], while other research has determined that it is possible to predict radiographic joint damage from baseline serum adiponectin values in RA patients, and it is also established that adiponectin stimulates the production of interleukin (IL)-6, prostaglandin E2, and MMP in RA synovial fibroblasts [10,11]. The gene discussed is ADIPOQ; the disease is rheumatoid arthritis.
