It was found that the advanced glycation end-products of diabetic nephropathy stimulate the activation of a variety of signals, such as to the NF-κB family, which will further activate target genes: pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL-1β) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) [30], which induce severe inflammation.
