One of the main prognostic factors with respect to gliomas is the presence of a mutation in the gene encoding isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) [2,5], which is the enzyme responsible for catalyzing the oxidative decarboxylation of isocitrate to 2-oxoglutarate in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. The gene discussed is IDH3A; the disease is central nervous system cancer.
