A meta-analysis of eight randomized clinical trials including 327 women with PCOS found that LCDs compared to a control diet significantly improved BMI, lipid levels (total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol), Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), testosterone (T), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), especially in the long-term (> 4 weeks) and when LCD was a low-fat/low CHO diet [41]. This evidence concerns the gene SHBG and Insulin resistance.
