Toyman et al., discovered higher MMP-3 levels in the GCF of periodontitis subjects, demonstrating the role of MMP-3 in periodontal tissue degradation [39], and results obtained from various studies showed the efficacy of non-surgical periodontal therapy in decreasing the MMP enzyme levels in the GCF of patients of various ethnicities with both a slow and rapid rate of periodontitis [30,40,41]. Here, MMP3 is linked to periodontitis.
