Our study suggests that PAX7 could be more functionally involved with the development of specific types of craniofacial clefts such as unilateral cleft lip, and less involved within the formation of bilateral cleft lip and isolated cleft palate, however, further research could help to elaborate this possible functional and pathogenetic connection of PAX7 with specific cleft types. The gene discussed is PAX7; the disease is cleft palate.
