The immunohistochemical markers that were analyzed in the patient samples were: CK19, to differentiate HCC from cholangiocarcinoma; HepPar, a marker that differentiates HCC from metastatic carcinoma [33]; GPC3, a member of the glypican family involved in progression of HCC [34]; β-catenin, a marker of development and progression of HCC [35]; and glutamine synthetase [36], which may enhance metastatic potential in HCC. This evidence concerns the gene GLUL and hepatocellular carcinoma.
