LTF and COVID-19: Iron chelators, such as Lf, have been repeatedly proposed as a potential therapeutic target during infections [72], and even in COVID-19 we assessed the reduction of ferritin levels during liposomal bLf administration, demonstrating its anti-inflammatory activity together with its iron chelating ability, which is pivotal for bacterial and viral replication and at the basis of its antibacterial and antiviral activity [23,31,36,37].
