COLEC12 and neurodegenerative disease: Considering its role in the uptake of myelin, COLEC12 likely plays an important role in the pathophysiology of neurodegenerative disease, but as an uptake of myelin leads to both demyelination and central nervous system repair, depending on whether it concerns intact myelin or myelin debris, COLEC12-mediated myelin uptake can be beneficial or detrimental.
