Previous studies have demonstrated the important roles of steroyl-CoA response element binding protein-1c (SREBP-1c) and carbohydrate response element-binding protein (ChREBP) in the development of hepatic steatosis due to the increase in transcription of enzymes involved in de novo lipogenesis, including acetyl-CoA carboxylase 1 (ACC1), fatty acid synthase (FASN) and stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 (SCD1) [32,33].
