VCP and cancer: In addition, given that VCP orchestrates multiple DNA repair pathways by enabling dynamic chromatin protein reorganization [16,55,56,57,58], and prior and current findings from us and others that Ser784 phosphorylation can be induced by a wide range of DNA damaging agents [22,23,24,25], pSer784-VCP can potentially dictate the response of different cancer types to diverse genotoxic chemotherapeutic agents including PARP inhibitors which were recently approved to treat germline BRCA-mutated metastatic PDAC.
