Regulatory agencies have approved the extension of the therapeutic indications of the drug Ilaris (Canakinumab) previously prescribed for CAPS (periodic syndromes associated with cryopyrin), for active systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis and for other diseases, including MKD, TRAPS (Tumor necrosis factor Receptor-Associated Periodic Syndrome) and FMF (Familial Mediterranean Fever) [11]. The gene discussed is NLRP3; the disease is systemic-onset juvenile idiopathic arthritis.
