Mucin 1 (MUC1) is a glycoprotein and abnormally overexpressed in most respiratory diseases, such as IPF (46), which was also found involved in the stabilization of the system XC- cystine/glutamate antiporter (xCT) complex, an important intracellular antioxidant element involved in the ferroptosis (47, 48) and in breast cancer cells (49). The gene discussed is MUC1; the disease is breast cancer.
