In human hepatocellular carcinomas, the expression of MT2A is drastically reduced [43, 44], suggesting down-regulation of MT2A is an imbalance in liver cancer, while MT2A is able to preserve homeostasis of biologically essential metals and to scavenge the toxic metals [43], therefore the up-regulation of MT2A by daidzein may contribute to restoration of homeostasis. This evidence concerns the gene MT2A and hepatocellular carcinoma.
