Inflammation is associated with anorexia and appetite loss (Gautron and Layé, 2010; Braun and Marks, 2010), yet chronic inflammation has been linked to the development of obesity by mechanisms involving leptin resistance and appetite increase (De Souza et al., 2005; Thaler et al., 2013; Kleinridders et al., 2009). The gene discussed is LEP; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
