Interestingly, increased TGFβ ligand expression was not disclosed in heavily scarred deformities of RDEB patients (Breitenbach et al., 2015a), whereas we observed elevated levels of circulating TGFβ in RDEB, as well as tissue-bound TGFβ and increased canonical TGFβ signaling in human RDEB wounds (Nyström et al., 2015). The gene discussed is TGFB1; the disease is recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa.
