The neurotrophin brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is one of the most efficient RGC neuroprotectants [7,11,14,19,20,21,22,23] and has been used in several experimental models such as IONT [7,9], intraorbital optic nerve crush (IONC) [24], ocular hypertension (OHT) [14,25], or in an in vivo model of focal light emitting diode-induced cone-photoreceptor phototoxicity [23,26]. This evidence concerns the gene BDNF and ocular hypertension.
