C9orf72 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: Strikingly, these pathways (i.e., nuclear and mitochondrial transports, vesicle trafficking, mitochondrial bioenergetics and the ER-phagosome network) are new in the context of C9ORF72-mediated pathogenesis of ALS, thus demonstrating that our network-based strategy was a powerful tool to suggest candidate molecular mechanisms to be further investigated in ALS.
