In 2015, Russo et al. [26] confirmed by in vivo study that mitotane-induced hypothyroidism is very similar to central hypothyroidism; in fact, the authors found that TSH increased after thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) administration, which was similar in 5 females patients affected by ACC and treated with mitotane, and in 10 patients affected by central hypothyroidism. Here, TRH is linked to adrenal cortex carcinoma.
