High concentrations of sgp130 have been associated with a decreased risk of future CVE13 18 but also with a negative prognosis in coronary heart disease.14 19 We previously showed a non-linear association for sgp130 with CVE in unstratified analyses of the cohort of 60-year-olds with extremely high and low concentrations being associated with a lower CVE risk.6 Potentially elevated sgp130 levels mirror an activated IL6 trans-signalling buffer whereas low values represent a low activity of IL6 trans-signalling. Here, IL6 is linked to coronary artery disorder.
