For an indirect neuroprotective function, curcumin indirectly improved cognitive impairments in a rat model of chronic cerebral hypoperfusion combined with diabetes mellitus by suppressing neuroinflammation induced by microglial activation, alleviating apoptosis, and reducing NLRP3-dependent pyroptosis [38], indicating that the inhibition of microglia pyroptosis may be an effective therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke. This evidence concerns the gene NLRP3 and diabetes mellitus.
