The unregulated expression of IL-1β has been associated with inflammation of the intestinal mucosa in patients with IBD, in vitro and in animal models, as it can promote the epithelial-mesenchymal transition in intestinal cells (15, 75), with loss of expression of e-cadherin, thus contributing to the invasion, growth, and metastasis (75). Here, CDH1 is linked to inflammatory bowel disease.
