OLR1 and cancer: In 4,703 participants from the Malmo Diet and Cancer Cohort, higher plasma levels of soluble LOX-1 were associated with higher risk of stroke during a mean follow-up of 16.5 years (HR = 1.5, 95% CI: 1.3–2.4). In 202 patients undergoing carotid endarterectomy, plasma levels of soluble LOX-1 were correlated with the plaque content of oxidized LDL, proinflammatory cytokines, and matrix metalloproteinases.
