Although a few studies failed to detect Aβ and/or (p)tau in the retina of AD patients, these reports included low case numbers (Schon et al., 2012; Ho et al., 2014; Williams et al., 2017) and only examined limited retinal regions in cross sections, focusing on less affected regions in these patients (La Morgia et al., 2016; Koronyo et al., 2017; Asanad et al., 2019; Shi et al., 2020b). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and Alzheimer disease.
