In PAN-induced nephrosis rats, the abundance of two podocyte cytoskeletal proteins, podocin and synaptopodin, was reduced in PAN-treated rat kidneys, while the expression levels of podocyte transcription factor WT1 were not affected, indicating that PAN at this concentration causes alterations in podocyte cytoskeletal structure but does not drive cell loss. The gene discussed is NPHS2; the disease is polyarteritis nodosa.
