TCF4 and schizophrenia: The transcription factor 7‐like 2 (TCF7L2 gene), previously named transcription factor 4 (TCF4)—not to be mistaken for TCF4, associated with a range of neuropsychiatric phenotypes, including autism and schizophrenia (SCZ) (De Rubeis et al., 2014; International Schizophrenia Consortium, 2008; Kalscheuer et al., 2008; Stefansson et al., 2008)—and initially related to developmental biology, is part of a complex network of proteins communicating with each other at the cellular level.
