Treatments that are known to prevent progressive loss of kidney function in CKD include control of blood pressure, use of an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) or angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), and control of blood glucose among individuals with diabetes.7,8,9,10,11,12,13 Sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors also improve outcomes in individuals with CKD,14,15 although these medications are not widely used at present, especially in LMICs.
