DPEP1 is another OA risk gene (POA = 1.32 × 10–8, PMD = 0.643), encoding an enzyme that hydrolyzes a range of substrates and participates in liver and lung neutrophil recruitment, interacts with glutamic acid, which may ameliorate symptoms of schizophrenia and help control alcoholism (Hammarström, 1983; Murphy and Gijón, 2007; Vance and Vance, 2008; Buczynski et al., 2009; Claesson, 2009; Choudhury et al., 2019). Here, DPEP1 is linked to alcohol drinking.
